ROCKVILLE - Paul A. Toracinta, 56, of Rockville, RI passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 in Westerly, RI. He is survived by his wife, Gail M. Toracinta and their two children. Also known as Newport Slim, Paul was born in Newport, RI. He was the third son of Charles Toracinta, Jr. and the late Katherine "Kitty" (McPoland) Toracinta. Paul married Gail M. Cyr in 1982 in Boulder, Colorado and they returned to Newport several years later to raise a family. He was Vice-President of AP Systems, Inc. of Newport, RI until 1989 when he began his own company. Paul founded and was an owner of Power Resources, Inc. a RI based company located in Hope Valley, RI. Power Resources, Inc. began in 1989 and has been selling and servicing uninterruptible power systems for various critical applications throughout the northeast region for the past 25 years. Power Resources, Inc. is a respected and recognized name in the industry. Thanks to the many years of experience its staff possesses and the quality of service it has provided to its customers. Newport Slim, a name given him by Dave Malone of the Radiators was an avid musician playing in several RI and MA bands. Steamahs and Caboodle were his latest band accomplishments with gigs in Southern New England. Paul was active in the local RI music scene knowing many musicians throughout his career. He helped bring national bands such as the New Orleans Radiators and New Orleans Suspects to the area. He recently was interviewed on WADK in Newport promoting the Steamahs. He enjoyed all types of music and his most recent endeavor was to create a band concentrating on the sounds of funk and soul. He wanted to make music for people to dance. He was an amazing talent always humble with regards to his skills and abilities. He was a musician’s musician. Always striving to improve himself as a musician. From his early days onward he would study the acts that came to Newport. Slim was considered a good friend to many local and national musicians such as blues guitarist Paul Geremia of Newport. Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter Adriane Rose Toracinta of Rockville and his son, Ian Toracinta and his wife, Lauren Russo of Charlestown, RI. He is survived by his brothers and sisters,
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport, RI. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at St. Augustin's Church, Carroll Avenue in Newport. Burial will be private.
