From: Shaun OBrien Subject: John Gordon - Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Dear Representative Ajello, My name is Shaun OBrien, I represent the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Pawtucket, RI. I write this letter in support of the efforts to clear the name of John Gordon. My organization fully endorses any and all efforts to examine the case of John Gordon within a Judiciary committee meeting, and the hopeful progression through the State Senate and finally ending with Governor Chafees signature. Although the events of John Gordon are significant in regard to Irish history, and certainly highlight the plight of Irish Catholic immigrants, they are not the most important lessons learned. I believe the key message is to right a wrong that was committed against someone unable to defend themselves. In a time of great intolerance toward the new minorities of our day we need to look out for the John Gordons of present day Rhode Island. In order to learn from our predecessors mistakes, we must acknowledge and correct them, before we can guard against repeating them.
